DIY Tie Dyed Tissue Paper

It's almost time to start slowly "wrapping" up Summer so I wanted to create something light, fluffy and fun for you. We all have special occasion's in our life whether it's a wedding, birthday or anniversary. Maybe you like to give back to school gifts to teachers or a simple gift to a special person in your life. Today I will show you how to make that gift a little more unique with Tie-Dyed tissue paper. Sure you can go out and buy some boring solid colors but how cool will it be when you tell someone you created that tissue! I am pushing things a little further by using tissue paper as wrapping paper, so come on let's get started!

Altered Tie-Dye T-shirt Challenge featuring Cathy of Trinkets in Bloom

Summer and tie dye just seem to go perfectly together and this DIY Tie Dye Beach Cover Up, made using Tulip’s Tie Dye Kit, is just the thing you need to keep cool and chic on the beach this summer! And with a fun contrast trim, you can easily wear this dress for lunch or drinks after a day of sunning! Stay cool!

TOOLS & MATERIALS:

1 T-shirt (Large/long enough to fit you like a short dress.)

1 Tulip Tie Dye Kit (I used Moody Blues)

Scissors

Sewing machine

Pins

Ruler or tape measure

Ric rac or other trim (optional)

step 1

Prepare your dye and the space where you will be dyeing your shirt.

I used my bathtub, but if you have a space where you can do it outside, that would work too.

First I laid down a large trash bag, then two layers of paper towels to catch the drips. Then I used a baking rack on top. The baking rack it really great to keep your fabric from sitting in the dye which can be bad especially if you’re using more than one color.

Fill the bottle with the dye powder up to the fill line with water and shake.

Time to tie your shirt.

I used an accordion pleat to make this design.

Lay your shirt out flat and make vertical pleats about 1.5 inches wide.

When your shirt is all pleated, wrap rubber bands about every 3 inches.
Make sure your rubber bands are very tight.

Lay your shirt on the baking rack you’ve prepared for dying.

Squeeze the dye onto your shirt in the center of each section.

Let your dye set for 6-8 hours. The longer you let your dye sit the stronger
and darker your color will be.

When your dye is ready cut off your rubber bands and rinse your shirt.

Keep rinsing your shirt until the water runs clear. (This can take awhile.)

Then wash and dry your shirt according to the instructions that came with your dye.

Lay your shirt out flat and measure where you will cut. 

You can also put your shirt on and pin along the neck where you want to cut.

Use a ruler or tape measure to make sure you cut a straight line from your neck to your arm hole.

TIP: Make the back side a little wider than the front.

Cut around the neck band on the sides and down in a straight line to the arm hole.
Do this for both sides.

Turn your shirt inside out and try it on.

Pin the sides of your shirt to fit snugly under your your arms, this will keep the armholes from gaping.

Take your shirt off and lay it out flat.

Use your tape measure to make a straight line from where you pinned your arm hole to the bottom hem of your shirt.

Using your sewing machine, sew a straight seam down each side of your shirt where you pinned it.

Before you turn it right side out or cut anything try it on again to make sure it fits the way you want.

Then cut off the extra fabric on your seams.

After all my sewing and cutting I couldn’t help but want to add something else. RIC RAC!!!

(Fortunately I had this great hot pink large ric rac just waiting to be used!)

Pin your ric rac to the bottom of your shirt and around your armholes. 

Use your sewing machine very carefully sew your ric rac on right down the center of it and right along the edge of your shirt.

Altered Tie-Dye T-shirt Challenge featuring Anne of Wobisobi

Editors note:  All this week, we will be hosting an Altered T-shirt challenge featuring some of our iLoveToCreate bloggers!  They were each sent a Tulip One-Step Tie Dye kit and Gildan t-shirt to distress, hack, cut up and alter to their heart's desire.  Have fun with us this week as we share four different looks from four awesome designers.  And check back with us in the future as we plan to have more challenges featuring our other iLoveToCreate bloggers!

 I love creating different types of no-sew t-shirts, and when you add tie-dye to them, it just makes them even more unique. Here I am using the Tulip One-Step Tie Dye kit in Moody Blues. This is the easiest way to tie dye, because all you do is open up the kit, add water and go!  There's everything you need for creating the perfect tie-dyed shirt in there!

 What you need:
– 100% Gildan Cotton Shirt (Large)
– Scissors
– Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Kit (I used Moody Blues)

 Fold your shirt in half.

Mark a diagonal line.

 Gather that line and rubber band around where you gathered.

 Add some rubber bands about 3 inches apart.

Now mix up your Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Bottles. Just add water to the top line of the bottle and shake well until all the powder is dissolved.

 
Squeeze you colors on your shirt, cover it with plastic, and let sit for 6-8 hours.

 Cut your rubber bands and rinse your shirt in the sink.
Then wash in the washing machine following the instructions on the kit.

 Now let's have some fun cutting this shirt up!

 It's so easy to cut up and restyle and basic t-shirt as you can see.

 Cut apart the top strap.

 Cut the other sleeve like the picture above!

 Cut and stretch the sleeve.

 Cut one inch strips down the side of your shirt.

 Cut them open.

 Now put on your shirt and tie the sides to fit your body.  It's the best part cause you can make it to fit your body type!

 Now you have a cute summer shirt for the beach or to wear with your favorite pair of jeans.

How to make a Tie-Dyed Fringe Necklace

TIE DYED FRINGE NECKLACE

It's that time of year to sport your brightest jewelry and I have something fun to show you. Of course it's great to buy things at the store but you will never find anything that fits you perfectly. You know what I mean, your favorite colors, style, shape and so on. That's why today I will show you how you make your very own tie dyed fringe necklace. I love this craft for the simple fact that you can make it how you want with your favorite colors. Let's get started.  

You will need:

*Tulip 5 Color Tie-Dye Kit :  (Red, Orange, Lime, Teal, Violet)

*Tie Dyed T-shirt 

*Scribbles 3-D Paint
*Fabric Scissors
*Chain Necklace

*Lot's of LOVE

Here are some of the different ways you could tie dye. For this necklace you could use any design because in the end you will have strips of fabric and the design won't be that obvious. 

This is what comes in your standard 5 piece set. I tie dyed a ton of white shirts with different colors so I would have different options for my necklace. 
*Rubber Bands
*Powdered Dye
*Clear Gloves
*Instructions
*Squirt Bottles 

Just have fun with your design. 

I love scribbles fabric paint. This paint surely brings me back to my childhood! 

 I recommend doing your shirt the day before you do the necklace. If you have never tie dyed you could check out this tutorial. It's so easy and you will have so much fun. 

First thing you will do is lay your shirt out flat on a surface you can cut on. I put my shirt inside out just so you could see the seams. 

 1. Cut the bottom part of the shirt off. 
2.  Cut the top portion of the shirt off. I cut right below the arms, horizontally.
3.  You will have a tube portion of your shirt now and two seams, on the left and right.
4.  Pick a side you want to start on and cut the shirt into strips. 

 Remember earlier when I said I dyed ton's of shirts. Here is another one that I made. I wasn't sure what kind of mood I would be in when I made the actual necklace so I wantet options! I actually decided to go with the "OMBRE" rainbow shirt. To do this, all I did was lay a shirt out flat and gradually add different colors from the bottom of shirt to the top. When I do this I like to add red next to yellow so I can get shades of orange. You can also put yellow next to green to get shades of lime green. It's so fun!

 Once you cut your strips you will have the seams left. Take your fabric scissors and cut the seams off. There is no right way to do this because in the end all we want is tiny strips of fabric. Pull the strips with so your fabric will curl. 

On to our next step. Get your chain necklace out. We are using a chain link necklace because we need the holes to pass out fabric through. 

Cut your strips into the length you want and put the two tips together. 

1.  Pass the loop through one of the chain links.
2.  Pull it through. The loop will be at the top now.
3.  Take the two pieces at the bottom of link and pass it through the loop.
4.  Now pull the two strait pieces downward to create a secure knot. 

This is what it will start to look like. 

OK! I am seriously in love with these colors. I can't wait to wear it with a white tank top. The colors will POP like crazy!

Pick your color of fabric paint. 

I am using white so my dot's look like pearls. 

 I only put them on the tips. 

If you have left over fabric strips you could make fringe earrings! Using the same steps. I didn't put pearl dot's on these. 

They are so cute! I would not recommend wearing the necklace and earrings at the same time. It might be a little too much! 

You could give this as a gift to someone or make 10 just for you. Remember you can make this as short or long as you like.
